The Mediterranean and Adriatic are experiencing some welcoming heatwaves making it the perfect time to get booked up on a last minute holiday, jet off and soak up some much missed sunshine. Here are the top destinations you should be considering to go and get some sun…
Alicante- flights at £29
A long-time favourite among British holidaymakers, Alicante is hotting up once again this summer. With the next two weeks set to be blue skies and bright sunshine, it could be the ideal place to simply relax on the beach. Weather is currently perfect tshirt weather offering temperatures of around 17 degrees.
You can tailor your holiday around the region in this part of Spain. If you’re looking for something a little more cultured then you can visit the town of Elche, which features a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or if you want a week of chilling out by the pool then Benidorm or Torrevieja are the places to go.
Faro- flights at £29
Along the Iberian coast and into Portugal, there is no better place at this time of year than the Algarve. Beautiful beaches, plentiful bars and restaurants and some of the best golf courses in Europe, it has it all. Offering 300 days of sunshine a year; it is the perfect year round destination!
Rather than watch the rain come down here, spend your days on the beach enjoying the glorious weather the Algarve has to offer. Once the hot days come to an end, then retire to the likes of Albufeira town, Vilamoura or Faro itself for a laidback evening.
Dalaman- flights at £39
If you like it hot, then Dalaman is the place to be. With temperatures sticking just over 30 degrees C for in summer the only thing that will be missing is a cloud in the sky. The hot days give way to warm evenings allowing you to enjoy meals al fresco once the sun goes down.
The south-western edge of Turkey isn’t called ‘The Turquoise Coast’ for nothing as the waters are as blue as you’re ever likely to find. It makes Dalaman a great choice for a beach holiday and one where you can forget all about the drizzly weather back home.
Maybe take a trip out to Oludeniz to visit its world famous Blue Lagoon, a secluded cove from the Mediterranean that really has to be seen to be believed.
Dubrovnik- flights at £29
Known as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, Dubrovnik is known for being traditionally cooler than in the Mediterranean, the walled city will be seeing temperatures crest over the 30 degrees C mark in summer.
Dubrovnik is the perfect place to even get away for just a few days. This destination is better suited to more of a laidback city break and as it hots up, it provides the perfect opportunity to take a walk around this beautiful place and take in some of the marvellous architecture this city possesses. From heading to the top of Srd Hill and gazing out on to the spectacular sights to viewing the abundance of museums, the gem of Croatia is one not to be missed as the sun comes out.
Paphos- flights at £39
Rain? What rain? Head to Paphos to get furthest away from the miserable weather in the UK. This quaint city on the island’s south-west coast is great for a cultural holiday or one just lying on the beach.
Head down to Coral Bay beach to walk on the white sands and even try your hand at watersports, or maybe just sit back and watch the world go by. If you’re looking for something a little more cultured then you can explore the mysterious vaults that populate Paphos, including caves known as the Tombs of the Kings and the catacombs beneath the Saint Solomoni Church.
