Monarch launches inaugural flight from East Midlands Airport

We are pleased to announce that we have launched our first flights from our new base at East Midlands Airport this morning, taking customers to Palma de Mallorca and Faro in Portugal.

These are two of the four new routes to be offered from the new base, along with Malaga and Alicante for the remainder of this summer. For Winter 2012/13 flights will be operating to Malaga, Alicante, Faro, Tenerife and Lanzarote.

You may remember the original announcement back in May announcing the upcoming base… which you can read about here.

Monarch aircraft takes off from East Midlands Airport

Our managing director Kevin George is delighted by the warm welcome we have received at East Midlands.

“Our flights have already proved to be very popular and there is clearly a demand for the routes we are offering,” Kevin said.

East Midlands becomes Monarch’s fifth base joining the established hubs at Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Luton. A sixth base at Leeds Bradford Airport will open in December 2012.

We now operate scheduled flights to Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Italy, Madeira, Portugal Spain and Turkey from Birmingham, East Midlands, Leeds Bradford, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester airports.

While we are introducing these new services, we are temporarily using aircraft operated by other airlines – in  industry terms this is called ‘wet leasing’.  For further details about our wet lease programme, please refer to this article.

Will you be flying with us from East Midlands? We’re looking foward to having you onboard!
