Our next Enthusiasts’ Day will offer a special twist! This time around, not only are we offering a special Enthusiasts’ itinerary for aviation lovers on the first scheduled flight to Friedrichshafen, but we’re also offering a special, separate itinerary for people who love Christmas markets and gluwein!

Friedrichshafen – Enthusiast Daytrip Itinerary – Thursday 6th December 2012

Aviation Enthusiasts! Join us on Friday 6 December for a huge day of airport tours, museum visits and return flights on a Monarch Airlines Boeing 757-200. Departing from London Gatwick Airport we’ll have an early start to fly to Friedrichshafen, located in Germany near the borders of Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein.

This is an escorted Enthusiasts’ Day with a difference as you can even visit  the  Zeppelin museum, for a different take on the history of commercial flight. In the evening, there’ll be a dinner included along with local Swabian beers and entertainment, before our return flight to Gatwick.

0400 – Assemble at Monarch Airlines’ check-in, South Terminal, London Gatwick Airport
Collect Boarding Passes for our roundtrip flights to Friedrichshafen (FDH)

0615 – Depart on flight ZB129 to Friedrichshafen
The flight operates on a Monarch Airlines Boeing B757-200

0900 – Arrive at Friedrichshafen on Monarch’s first flight to our new scheduled destination
This is a special occasion for both Monarch and our colleagues at Flughafen Friedrichshafen

0945 – A visit to the Dornier Museum with a number of unique aircraft in a fantastic new building.

1130 – We will return to the airport for a tour of the site provided by Flughafen Friedrichshafen staff

1230 – After a short bus transfer, we will arrive at the Zeppelin Hangars on the opposite side of the airfield. At this point snacks will be provided. A guided tour of the giant hangars and production site will then be led by Zeppelin staff

1400 – We will depart by bus to the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen City Centre

1430 – You will then have time to explore the Zeppelin Museum at your leisure

After visiting the Museum, you will have time to explore the city on the shores of beautiful Lake Constance. During our visit the Christmas Markets will be in full swing, so that city will be in festive mood.

1800 – Transfer back to Friedrichshafen Airport by bus

1830 – We will be treated to a “Folk-like” Swabian evening and meal, including local foods and beers
*The meal will be served in the airport fire station with views of the FDH ramp

2155 – Depart on flight ZB130 to London Gatwick
The flight operates on a Monarch Airlines Boeing B757-200

2240 – Arrive at London Gatwick’s South Terminal
The event will be escorted by Monarch Airlines staff members who will be on hand to answer questions. The Zeppelin museum tour will be escorted by museum guides, and tours of the Zeppelin production site will be escorted by company staff. There will be plenty of walking, so guests are recommended to wear comfortable shoes, and pack lightly.

Christmas Markets Daytrip Itinerary – Thursday 6th December 2012

Friedrichshafen is among Monarch’s eleven new ski routes – a perfect gateway to the some of the best resorts in the Alps. You’ll have the chance to enjoy beautiful views of the scenery, including Lake Constance, and the German city of Konstanz, with plenty of free time to explore the Christmas markets.

0400 – Assemble at Monarch Airlines’ check-in, South Terminal, London Gatwick Airport. Collect Boarding Passes for our roundtrip flights to Friedrichshafen (FDH). You will be welcomed at check-in, by a “Nikolo” – a German Santa Claus who will accompany us on our flight.

0615 – Depart on flight ZB129 to Friedrichshafen

0900 – Arrive at Friedrichshafen on Monarch’s first flight to our new scheduled destination. This is a special occasion for both Monarch and our colleagues at Flughafen Friedrichshafen.

0930 – Transfer by bus to Friedrichshafen City Centre where you will have time to explore the town and the waterfront

You will be issued with roundtrip catamaran tickets to travel from Friedrichshafen to the German city of Konstanz on the opposite side of Lake Constance. Catamarans depart ever hour on the hour. You will then have free time to explore the Christmas Markets in Konstanz or wander across one of the bridges linking the city with Kreuzlingen,in Switzerland.

You will have time to enjoy a leisurely lunch in either Friedrichshafen in Konstanz.

1600 – At 4pm, the Christmas Markets in Friedrichshafen will open. Here, you will be able to sample the local “Gluhwein”, a hot wine punch and a number of other local delicacies

1800 – Transfer back to Friedrichshafen Airport by bus

1830 – We will be treated to a “Folk-like” Swabian evening and meal, including local foods and beers. The meal will be served in the airport fire station with views of the airport ramp and the parked aircraft.

2155 – Depart on flight ZB130 to London Gatwick

2240 – Arrive at London Gatwick’s South Terminal

  • hi, what are the chances for a monarch 757 event from Manchester in the near future. or do you know what routes the 757 will operate from Manchester in 2013 ? Thanks

    • Hi Sam, there will be a B757 operating a mixture of scheduled and chartered services from Manchester in 2013 but I can’t say which exact services. Keep an eye on the skies!

  • This sounds like a fantastic trip, but unfortunately quite difficult (logistically and financially) for those of us based in the north. Any chance of more MAN departures for enthusiast trips?
