Corralejo is one of the most popular holiday resorts in the Canary Islands, offering a wide variety of things to do and a magical atmosphere.
While the town is well known for its sandy beaches and lush climate, there is much more for travellers to enjoy in this magnificent area of Fuerteventura. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie searching for some exhilarating fun, or a rambler looking for some new trails to explore, there’s plenty to look forward to.
Here are just some of the amazing activities you can enjoy in the resort:
1. Explore the beauty of Parque Natural de Corralejo
Parque Natural de Corralejo is one of the island’s most picturesque areas and has become a hotspot for windsurfers, kiteboarders and ramblers looking to explore the beauty of the coast.
It has been protected by the government as an area of natural interest and there are 10km of sand dunes for visitors to wander around. It’s a truly magnificent area to search around and tourists can spend hours marvelling at the stunning sights.
Once you have finished looking at the dunes, you can continue your walk up the coastline, enjoy the refreshing sea breeze and glare out at the glorious Atlantic Ocean.
2. Walk to the island’s historic volcanoes
Around 6m away from Corralejo is an area of around 5km where there are several volcanoes aligned facing the north east. These volcanoes are responsible for much of the lava fields surrounding them, including the volcanic island of Lobos.
Volcan Bayuyo is the most well-known volcano on the island and is surrounded by a number of smaller volcanoes. These form a line that end in the two most colourful volcanoes Montana Colorada and Calderon Hondo, making up a truly unforgettable landscape.
Visitors should try to climb to the summit of Bayuyo, where they can look out onto the amazing Fuerteventura scenery and take advantage of some excellent photo opportunities.
3. Try something new with landsailing
Landsailing is one hobby you may not have heard much about, but if you want to enjoy one of the most thrilling activities in the world, this could be for you.
These vehicles are capable of going up to 50 or 60 miles per hour and you can be in complete control of your direction as you sail through the wind. It has to be experienced to be believed and there are plenty of companies providing the equipment required to give the sport a try.
While you may be worried about travelling so quickly, there are plenty of safety precautions taken to ensure you don’t get injured, with trainers on hand to make sure you travel only at your own preferred speed.
4. Take to the waves with a surf school
Surfing takes place at many beaches across the world, but the community in Corralejo is truly something special. Locals love the sport here and there are plenty of schools to choose from if you want to give the activity a go.
The waves on Glass Beach and Drop Beach are ideal for those wanting to try the exercise, with facilities available for bodyboarders and surfers alike. The positive atmosphere and helpfulness of locals make the town a fantastic place to try a new hobby.
