(Friday 10 June 2016) Schoolchildren from Leeds today showcased their creative side by ‘colouring their summer’ with a temporary art installation on display in the arrivals hall at Leeds Bradford Airport.
Pupils from Bramham Shadwell Federation School spent this morning colouring a giant Barcelona landscape, which features as part of Monarch’s ‘colour your summer’ campaign. They were given a range of permanent colouring pens to fill in the gaps in the outlines for the Barcelona scene, which will remain on the wall in the arrivals area for the coming weeks; providing a fantastically colourful welcome for passengers arriving at Leeds Bradford Airport.
Around 70 children from Bramham Shadwell Federation School took part in a drawing competition to take part in today’s fun activities.
Sarah Richards, Executive Headteacher at Bramham Shadwell Federation School said: “The children taking part today feel exceptionally honoured to colour the artwork in on behalf of Monarch and Leeds Bradford Airport. We love working closely with local businesses and it’s an honour to be here today using our artistic skills to decorate the artwork on display in the arrivals area.
“Thanks to Leeds Bradford Airport and Monarch, our children have been able to learn about the airport and spend time here seeing a very different side to somewhere they are familiar with as passengers when they go on their holidays. We have a very talented group of children here and they have loved every minute of being involved in this way.”
James Crosby, Marketing and Brand Manager at Monarch, said: “It is great having children at the airport bringing life to our current advertising campaign. Colouring in is a big craze at the minute and the trend for both children and adult colouring is becoming increasingly popular as a way to relax and unwind. Holidays are very much about doing the very same thing so our new ‘colour your summer’ campaign is a great opportunity for people to get involved and bring more colour into their holidays.”
Tony Hallwood, Aviation Development Director at Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “We love to involve our local community in our work and it’s been fantastic to welcome Bramham Shadwell Federation School pupils here to further enhance our walls. Here at the airport, we have a range of colourful, impactful artwork on our walls and digital displays; to be able to showcase the talents of local children as part of that is brilliant. They have done such a fabulous job and should be really proud of their efforts today.”
Leeds Bradford Airport has more than 3.4m passengers a year travelling through its doors and is one of the UK’s fastest growing regional airports, with more than 70 direct destinations available.
