Monarch aircraft at Gibraltar Airport

Some people call themselves aviation enthusiasts… others are plane spotters… many are ‘avgeeks’… and here at Monarch, we love you all. If you share our passion for all things related to commercial aircraft, airline operations, aircraft engineering or even airports, we’re inviting you to join us for the day trip of a lifetime.

On Friday 14 October, we’ll be running our first “Enthusiast’s Day”, where we’re offering unprecedented access to Monarch behind-the-scenes. The action-packed day presents a rare opportunity to meet some of the Monarch staff responsible for organising our fleet, keeping our aircraft in top condition and looking after you onboard.

The day starts early with a 6.15 meeting at Monarch HQ in Luton, followed by a tour of the Integrated Operations Centre. Here you’ll have the chance to see the operations team in action just before the start of a busy day’s flying and learn what goes on as 30 aircraft are prepared for their morning departures.

Next we’ll take a return flight to Gibraltar on flight ZB068, boarding an Airbus A320-200, where you can enjoy the comforts of our in-flight cabin service and learn why our cabin crew have the reputation for being the most friendly and professional in the business.

On arrival in Gibraltar we are privileged to be able to visit Air Traffic Control, followed by free time to enjoy the island or the Spanish city of La Linea, at your leisure. You may like to take the opportunity to walk across the runway in Gibraltar via the public road, or view aircraft movements from the top of the Rock (NB: tour/transport not included in this trip).

Returning to Luton Airport in the evening, we’ll tour the engineering hangar where you’ll have the chance to see aircraft being worked on by our expert technicians at close proximity.

This exciting itinerary is great value at just £119 per person but if you’d like one of the 15 people to take part in this special day, you’ll need to hurry – places are filling fast! Full details can be found in the “Offers” section of our website, or visit our website to learn how to reserve your place now.

  1. A day with an A.300 would be great – always a rare type in the UK and now a rare type in passenger service worldwide, but a great servant to Monarch hauling punters to the Med.

    • Hi Mark, thanks for your feedback. I believe our organisers are looking at various aircraft types and the A300 has been mentioned rather regularly by enthusiasts and avgeeks alike. Keep an eye on the blog as any future trips will be announced here. Thanks!

  2. Hi again,
I posted on the other blog part:
But just wanted to say a huge well done again for thinking up something so great. Would love to see Gibraltar again, it’s a unique destination that I unfortunately missed out on this time. I would love to see a day like this again soon and I will definitely fly all the way from Majorca to the UK just to join up on the tour!

  3. Hello

Would be lovely for it to happen again. But please please please make it a weekend! I unfortunately have College and my father has Work. I’m gutted that I’m not able to come! Please do inform me of any more!

    • Hi Jordan, thanks for your feedback. I’m sorry you and your dad aren’t able to come along this time but fingers crossed we’ll run another Enthusiasts’ Day soon, which you’ll hopefully have a chance to attend. If we do another one, we’ll put an article about it on the blog so I’d suggest that you subscribe so you can stay in touch. Thanks for your comment!

  4. Great idea, and a reasonable price too. Shame I’ll be at work! Another vote for a Manc day at some point in the future.

  5. Hi
I’d love to go but we fly to Faro with you same day.

Please let me know if you are doing another day from Luton.

    • Hi Richard, if and when we run any further Enthusiasts’ Days, we’ll certainly put a post up on our blog and information on the website. I’d suggest subscribing to the blog (and/or Twitter) so that you can keep in touch with any future updates. Thanks for your comment.

    • Hi Sheila, I’m glad you like the sound of it, I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting day! We’re looking into running other Enthusiasts’ Days from other bases at the moment and once a decision has been made, we’ll post an update here on the blog, so please keep in touch. Thanks for your interest.
