Monarch, a leading low cost airline and holiday company, is the first UK airline to introduce two new innovative products that will improve the in-flight experience for customers.

Known as ‘Extra Comfort Seat’ and ‘Bid for Extra Legroom’ these new services have been developed in partnership with Spanish airline technology specialists Caravelo, and will allow Monarch to repackage unsold upgrade options on flights.

The services are available to customers who have made flight only bookings at Eligible customers will be contacted via email four days before their flight departure with details of the service.

‘Extra Comfort Seat’ will offer selected customers the chance to enjoy extra comfort by purchasing one or two extra spaces next to their original seat (maximum of two customers per booking).

The ‘Bid for Extra Legroom’ product will allow customers to bid for any unsold upgrade seats that are still available four days before their flight, and requests for the service can be made up to 26 hours before departure (maximum of six customers per booking).

Customers who have already booked a standard seat will be given the opportunity to either ‘Bid for Extra Legroom’ or purchase ‘Extra Comfort Seats’. They will be informed if they have been successful or not with their bid for the extra legroom seats within 24 hours of departure.

Hugo Vicente de Freitas, Monarch’s Loyalty and Retail Product Development Manager said: “We are delighted to be the first UK airline to offer these particular products to our customers. We take great pride in our fantastic customer service and with our new ‘Extra Comfort Seat’ and ‘Bid for Extra Legroom’ initiatives customers can now add more comfort to their journey when flying with Monarch.”
